Candibene® 1% cream contains the active ingredient clotrimazole. Clotrimazole belongs to the group of antifungals and is effective against numerous types of fungi that can cause infections of the skin, mucous membranes, and nails.

The active ingredient inhibits the growth of fungi and can kill them. The cream is suitable for the external treatment of various fungal infections, including infections caused by dermatophytes and yeasts such as Candida albicans.

Indications

For the treatment of:

• Fungal skin infections

• Fungal infections of the mucous membranes

• Fungal nail infections

• Dermatophyte skin mycoses

• Yeast infections caused by Candida species

• Candida vulvitis

• Candida balanitis

Mechanism of Action

Clotrimazole is effective against a variety of fungal pathogens. It impairs the formation of the fungal cell membrane, thereby inhibiting the growth and reproduction of fungi or leading to the death of the pathogens.

Dosage and Application

Unless otherwise prescribed:

• Apply thinly to the affected skin areas 2 to 3 times daily

Before application, the affected skin areas should be thoroughly cleaned and carefully dried.

Application in the intimate area

For Candida vulvitis or Candida balanitis:

• Apply thinly to the affected areas 1 to 3 times daily

Application for nail fungus

• Cut nails as short as possible before treatment

• Lightly roughen the nail surface

• Apply regularly

Duration of Treatment

• Skin fungal infections: generally 2 to 6 weeks

• Nail fungal infections: usually longer than 3 months

Treatment should be continued for at least 2 weeks after the symptoms have completely subsided.

Ingredients

Active Ingredient

1 g cream contains:

• 10 mg Clotrimazole (1 %)

Other Ingredients

• Benzyl alcohol – 20 mg

• Cetyl palmitate

• Cetostearyl alcohol

• Polysorbate 60

• Sorbitan monostearate

• Octyldodecanol (Eutanol G)

• Purified water

Side Effects

Like all medicines, Candibene® 1% cream can have side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Occasionally

• Skin irritation

• Burning sensation

• Itching

• Skin redness

• Tightness of the skin

Rarely

• Skin rash

• Swelling

• Contact allergic reactions

• Hypersensitivity reactions

Not known

• Blistering

• Skin peeling

• Local pain or irritation at the application site

Cetostearyl alcohol can cause localized skin irritation. Benzyl alcohol can cause mild local irritation.

If there are signs of an allergic reaction or a significant worsening of symptoms, discontinue use and seek medical advice.
