Octenisept® is a solution for disinfecting wounds and mucous membranes.

This disinfectant is suitable for both external use and for mucous membranes.

Mechanism of Action

The active ingredients contained are octenidine dihydrochloride and 2-phenoxyethanol.

Octenidine has a comprehensive germicidal effect and is effective against bacteria, fungi, and some viruses. Due to its mechanism of action, resistance is not expected.

Areas of Application

For the short-term antiseptic treatment of mucous membranes and transitional epithelium before surgical procedures.

Use in the oral cavity, for example, before tooth extractions or curettages.

Use in the urogenital area, for example, before hysterectomies, and in the rectal area, such as before the treatment of hemorrhoids.

In the vaginal area with an applicator spray head for uncomplicated bacterial and fungal infections.

For temporary wound and suture care, and for the antiseptic treatment of infected skin wounds.

Octenisept can be used in adults and children without age restriction. Its safety has also been demonstrated in premature infants from the 24th week of gestation.

If no improvement occurs after repeated use or if symptoms worsen, a doctor should be consulted.

Dosage and Application

Always use the product according to the package insert or as directed by a doctor, pharmacist, or nursing staff.

It is applied to skin and mucous membranes.

The areas to be disinfected should be thoroughly wetted and allowed to act for at least 1 minute.

With the 50 ml pack, the solution can be sprayed directly. In the mouth, Octenisept can also be used as a mouthwash. For this, vigorously rinse about 20 ml for 20 seconds and additionally allow it to act for 1 minute.

For skin disinfection, for example, before a C-section, the exposure time is 2 minutes.

Octenisept is used undiluted and must not be ingested.

For vaginal application, press the applicator spray head ten times in a row.

After vaginal therapy, it is advisable to restore the vaginal flora with lactobacillus-containing capsules.

Use in Children and Adolescents

Application is the same for children, adolescents, and adults.

In Case of Overdose

There is no knowledge of overdoses. However, an overdose is very unlikely with external application.

Side Effects

Occasionally, local irritation or transient burning may occur. In case of hypersensitivity reactions, discontinue use.

(3-Cocosfatty acid amidopropyl)dimethylazaniumylacetate, sodium D-gluconate, glycerol 85%, sodium chloride, sodium hydroxide, purified water.
