Laxbene® Suppositories

Laxbene® suppositories contain the active ingredient bisacodyl. Upon contact with the mucous membrane of the large intestine, bisacodyl stimulates natural bowel activity. This softens the stool, making it easier to pass.

Laxbene® is characterized by good tolerability. When used correctly, the medication primarily acts in the large intestine, allowing for reliable and gentle bowel emptying.

Areas of application

Laxbene® suppositories are used:

• For the short-term treatment of constipation (obstipation)

• For sluggish bowels

• For preparation for examinations and surgeries

• For conditions requiring easier defecation

Effect

The active ingredient bisacodyl stimulates the movements of the large intestine, thereby aiding bowel emptying. Simultaneously, it promotes the accumulation of water in the intestine, which softens the stool and makes it easier to pass.

The onset of action typically occurs within approximately 30 minutes.

Dosage and administration

For short-term treatment of constipation

Adults, adolescents and children aged 10 years and over:

• Insert 1 suppository into the rectum

Method of application

• Remove the suppository from its packaging.

• Insert it into the rectum with the pointed end first.

• Application is rectal.

Instructions for use

• Laxbene® should only be given to children and adolescents under medical supervision.

• Use in children under 10 years of age is not recommended.

• For preparation for examinations or surgeries, Laxbene® suppositories should only be used under medical supervision.

• 10 mg Bisacodyl

Other ingredients

• Cellulose powder

• Hard fat (Witepsol® H 15 and Witepsol® W 35)

Side effects

Like all medicines, Laxbene® suppositories can have side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Common

• Abdominal cramps

• Abdominal pain

• Diarrhea

• Nausea

Occasional

• Dizziness

• Abdominal discomfort

• Vomiting

• Discomfort in the anal or rectal area

Rare

• Hypersensitivity reactions

• Skin rash

• Hives

• Angioedema (swelling of skin and mucous membranes)

• Circulatory reactions or fainting (syncope)

Very rare or not known

• Severe allergic reactions

• Dehydration

• Electrolyte disturbances

• Potassium loss

• Fatigue

• Muscle weakness

• Colon inflammation (colitis)

In case of severe abdominal pain, severe allergic reactions, swelling in the face or throat, or circulatory problems, discontinue use and seek immediate medical advice.
