Gaviscon® Liquid Forte Anise belongs to the group of reflux suppressants and acts directly in the stomach.

The preparation forms a protective layer ("raft") that lies on top of the stomach contents. This prevents the reflux of stomach acid into the esophagus and alleviates symptoms such as heartburn and acid regurgitation.

Mechanism of Action

• Forms a mechanical protective barrier in the stomach
• Prevents the rise of stomach acid
• Alleviates symptoms such as heartburn, stomach pressure, and acid regurgitation

Due to the high alginate content (1,000 mg per 10 ml), a particularly strong protective barrier is created.

Areas of Application

• Heartburn
• Acid regurgitation
• Indigestion associated with reflux
• Post-meal discomfort
• Reflux during pregnancy
• Reflux esophagitis

Dosage and Application

Shake well before use.

Adults, elderly patients, and children from 12 years:

• 5–10 ml (1–2 measuring spoons)
• after meals and before bedtime
• up to 4 times daily

Children under 12 years:

• Use only after medical recommendation

Notes:

• Do not double dose if a dose is missed
• Seek medical advice if symptoms persist for longer than 7 days

Warnings

• Can also be used during pregnancy
• Sugar and gluten-free
• Overdosing can lead to flatulence or abdominal discomfort

Ingredients

Active ingredients (per 10 ml suspension):

• Sodium alginate 1,000 mg
• Potassium hydrogen carbonate 200 mg

Excipients:

• Calcium carbonate
• Carbomer
• Methyl 4-hydroxybenzoate
• Propyl 4-hydroxybenzoate
• Saccharin sodium
• Sodium hydroxide
• Anise flavor (from fennel)
• Purified water

Side Effects

Like all medicines, this one can also have side effects.

Occasionally:

• Diarrhea
• Nausea
• Vomiting

Very rarely:

• Allergic reactions (skin rash, itching, shortness of breath, swelling of face, lips, tongue or throat, dizziness)

If allergic reactions occur, stop taking the medication immediately and consult a doctor.
