Gaviscon® Mint Chewable Tablets are used for the treatment of symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux, such as heartburn, acid regurgitation and indigestion associated with reflux.

These symptoms often occur after meals, during pregnancy, or with reflux esophagitis.

Mechanism of action

The active ingredient alginate is obtained from the seaweed Laminaria hyperborea.

• Forms a mechanical protective barrier ("raft") on the stomach contents
• Prevents the backflow of stomach acid into the esophagus
• Relieves symptoms such as heartburn, stomach pressure and acid regurgitation

The effect can last up to 4 hours.

Dosage and application

Adults and children aged 12 and over:

• 2–4 chewable tablets after meals and before bedtime
• up to 4 times a day

Children under 12 years:

• Use only on medical advice

Application:

• Chew or suck the tablets
• Can be taken without water

Notes

• Can also be used at night
• If symptoms persist, seek medical advice

Ingredients

Active ingredients per chewable tablet:

• Sodium alginate 250 mg
• Sodium bicarbonate 133.5 mg
• Calcium carbonate 80 mg

Excipients:

• Mannitol
• Aspartame (3.75 mg)
• Magnesium stearate
• Copovidone
• Peppermint flavour
• Acesulfame potassium
• Macrogol 20000

Side effects

Gaviscon® Mint Chewable Tablets are generally well tolerated.

Possible side effects:

• Gastrointestinal complaints (e.g. flatulence)
• Rarely hypersensitivity reactions

Note:

• Contains aspartame (a source of phenylalanine)
