What is Fenivir and what is it used for?

Fenivir is a beige to light brown cream for the treatment of cold sores (herpes labialis) caused by herpes simplex viruses.

The cream should be applied as early as possible, as soon as the first symptoms such as tingling occur or swelling and blisters form.

Fenivir should no longer be used once crusts have already formed.

Fenivir inhibits the multiplication of the herpes simplex virus. The healing time, the duration of pain, and visible signs of the virus can be shortened by up to 24 hours.

If you do not feel better or worse after 4 days, contact your doctor.

Dosage and Application

Adults and adolescents over 12 years of age should apply Fenivir as soon as possible after the first signs of illness, such as tingling or itching.

Hands should be thoroughly washed before and after application.

Apply a small amount of cream to your fingertip and apply to the affected areas every 2 hours during the day.

The application is for 4 days.

When used around mealtimes, the cream should be applied after eating. Even if the symptoms do not improve immediately, treatment should be continued.

Use in Children

Fenivir cream must not be used in children under 12 years of age.

If too much has been applied

Even if a larger amount is applied to the skin, no serious undesirable effects are usually to be expected. Mild skin irritation may occasionally occur.

If swallowed accidentally, irritation in the mouth may occur. Special treatment is usually not necessary.

If an application is forgotten

Do not apply a double dose if you forgot the previous application.

Side Effects

Like all medicines, Fenivir can cause side effects. Local skin reactions or hypersensitivity reactions may occur in sensitive individuals.

Paraffin, liquid, Macrogol cetostearyl ether 1000, purified water, cetostearyl alcohol, white petrolatum, propylene glycol, iron oxide yellow, iron oxide red.
