Why are omega-3 fatty acids so important – or, as the name suggests – "essential"? The fatty acids EPA and DHA, primarily found in fish oil, not only possess properties important for the heart but also contribute to maintaining normal blood pressure₂₎ and are crucial for brain function. Special attention should be paid to this during pregnancy and breastfeeding, as DHA plays an important role in the development of the fetus's brain and eyes.
