Physiodose Hypertonic is a hypertonic seawater solution for cleaning and rinsing the nose. Due to its increased salt content of 22 g/l, the solution has a decongestant effect and helps clear a stuffy nose.

Nasal irrigation helps remove excess mucus and secretions from the nasal passages, thereby facilitating nasal breathing.

Physiodose Hypertonic can be used in infants – with the exception of premature babies – children, and adults.

What is Physiodose Hypertonic?

Physiodose Hypertonic is a seawater solution with a salt content of 22 g/l, making it more concentrated than a physiological saline solution.

The hypertonic solution was specially developed for nasal irrigation in cases of congested and swollen nasal mucosa.

It cleans the nasal passages and simultaneously helps to reduce swelling of the nasal mucosa.

Areas of Application

Physiodose Hypertonic is recommended for nasal irrigation, especially in cases of:

• Rhinopharyngitis

• Acute rhinosinusitis

• Swollen nasal mucosa

The solution can be used in infants, children, and adults. Premature babies are excluded from use.

How does Physiodose Hypertonic work?

The decongestant effect is based on the higher salt concentration of the hypertonic seawater solution.

Due to the concentration difference, fluid can be drawn from the swollen nasal mucosa osmotically. This can reduce the swelling of the mucous membrane and facilitate nasal breathing.

At the same time, the rinse mechanically removes mucus, secretions, and other deposits from the nasal passages.

In contrast to isotonic solutions, whose salt concentration is approximately equal to that of body fluids, a hypertonic solution has a higher salt concentration.

This makes Physiodose Hypertonic particularly suitable when, in addition to cleansing the nose, a decongestant effect is also desired.

Physiodose Hypertonic can be used for nasal irrigation in different age groups.

In infants, the removal of nasal secretions can be particularly helpful, as they predominantly breathe through their nose and can therefore find a stuffy nose particularly uncomfortable.

The product can be used in infants but is not intended for premature babies.

Application

Use Physiodose Hypertonic for nasal irrigation according to the instructions in the package leaflet.

The solution is introduced into the respective nostril so that the nasal passages can be rinsed and existing secretions can be loosened or removed.

In infants and young children, application should be carried out with particular care.

After application, loosened nasal secretions can be removed or, in older children and adults, gently blown out.

Use for colds and stuffy nose

During a cold, the nasal mucosa can swell and produce more secretions. This makes nasal breathing difficult.

The hypertonic seawater solution supports both the mechanical cleansing of the nasal passages and the reduction of mucous membrane swelling.

Physiodose Hypertonic can therefore be used particularly for a stuffy nose.

Use for rhinitis and rhinosinusitis

In rhinitis and acute rhinosinusitis, swelling of the nasal mucosa and increased secretion production can occur.

Nasal irrigation can remove secretions and cleanse the nasal passages. The hypertonic salt concentration also helps to reduce swelling of the mucous membrane.

Safety instructions

Do not use in premature babies.

In infants and young children, nasal irrigation should be carried out carefully and in accordance with the package leaflet.

For hygienic reasons, one container or single dose should only be used by one person.

If symptoms persist for a long time, severe pain, high fever, or a significant worsening occurs, medical advice should be sought.

Side effects and tolerability

Hypertonic saline solutions can temporarily cause a slight burning, tingling, or irritation, especially in sensitive or already severely irritated nasal mucosa.

In case of severe or persistent discomfort, discontinue use and seek medical or pharmaceutical advice.
