Medicine for emergency contraception after unprotected sexual intercourse or contraceptive failure

Navela® contains the active ingredient Levonorgestrel 1.5 mg and is used for emergency contraception. The tablet can be taken after unprotected sexual intercourse or if a contraceptive method fails, for example, after a condom breaks.

Levonorgestrel can prevent or delay ovulation, thereby reducing the likelihood of fertilization. Navela® does not terminate an existing pregnancy.

Area of application

Emergency contraception within 72 hours (3 days) after unprotected sexual intercourse or contraceptive failure.

Active ingredient

1 tablet contains:

• 1.5 mg Levonorgestrel

Dosage and administration

Take 1 tablet once.

It should be taken as soon as possible, preferably within 12 hours, but no later than 72 hours after unprotected sexual intercourse.

The sooner Navela® is taken, the more reliable its effect.

Important notes

Navela® is intended exclusively for emergency contraception and does not replace regular birth control methods.

After taking it, a reliable barrier method, such as a condom, should be used until the next menstrual period.

If vomiting occurs within a few hours of taking the tablet, absorption of the active ingredient may be incomplete, and another dose may be necessary. Please refer to the package leaflet or ask your doctor or pharmacist.

The next menstrual period may occur a few days earlier or later than expected. If bleeding is significantly delayed or unusual, pregnancy should be ruled out.

Possible side effects

These may include:

• Nausea and other gastrointestinal complaints

• Headaches, dizziness, or fatigue

• Lower abdominal pain

• Breast tenderness

• Spotting or breakthrough bleeding

• Changes in the next menstrual period

• Hypersensitivity reactions

Pregnancy and lactation

Navela® must not be used to terminate an existing pregnancy.

During lactation, the tablet should be taken immediately after breastfeeding, followed by a breastfeeding break of at least 8 hours.
